Kimono - Ann Pizzato
This kimono-style piece was inspired by the simple clothing of the
Japanese peasant women. The harsh climate of Northern Japan deemed
it impossible to cultivate cotton. Due to this circumstance clothing was
patched with any fabric available. This form of patching was referred to
as “boro boro”, meaning something tattered or repaired. I am
presenting a boro inspired garment showcasing its extended life span.
• Fabrics: Linen, silk, cotton, canvas.
• Threads: Cotton, silk
• Botanically dyed fabrics and frayed linen to create an aged
appearance;
• Shibori avocado dyed silk; boro inspired patchwork; my tatted
medallions; machine and hand stitched.
